Have your say on plans for Barrow Road

Thank you for taking the time to visit our consultation website which is Galliard Homes’ hub for information on plans to redevelop the former Pure Gym and Mecca Bingo site and car park off Barrow Road. The below includes further information on the proposals including a copy of the exhibition boards from the event on the 22 February, and the webinar presentation recording from 23rd February.

In summary we are proposing to build around 340 new homes on this underutilised, brownfield site, which is close to shops, local facilities and the transport links around Lawrence Hill station and St Philips Causeway. The plans include a mix of two and three storey town houses, stepping back to a ten and 16 storey residential building where the current warehouse stands. It also includes new gardens and play space along the edge of Hemmings Parade.

Galliard Homes is a long established and award-winning brownfield developer, based in London, Birmingham and here in Bristol. Recent schemes that have delivered new homes in Bristol include: Brooks Dye Works (St Werburgh’s), Brandon Yard (Harbourside). We are currently working with Bristol City Council on the Whitehouse Street Regeneration Framework (Bedminster) and consulting on Redcatch Quarter (Knowle).

  • The proposals are being brought forward in the context Bristol’s housing, ecology and climate crisis, all of which this scheme will try to help.
  • There are around 18,000 people on Bristol’s affordable housing waiting list and 1,000 in temporary accommodation.
  • The scheme would be built on brownfield land looking to return an under used car park back to green space while delivering at least a 10% biodiversity net gain. It includes renewable energy and energy saving measures, and no gas.
  • And responds to the Council’s ambition for the Lawrence Hill area to be regenerated through the provision of new residential development, which can include taller buildings.

EIA Scoping Request Submitted

Mon 13th Nov 2023 at 12:48

As part of the ongoing planning process, we have submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping application (EIA).

This is not a formal planning application and does not permit any form of development. We are asking Bristol City Council Planning Officers if they think the proposals would likely have a significant environmental impact and whether this impact would require additional environmental reports to be provided as part of the planning application, beyond the extensive report and technical evidence already required by Bristol City Council planning application validation checklist.

A full planning application is likely early in the New Year.
